Scrappy Quilts

I found a wonderful pattern in a Jo Morton book for a wall quilt and decided to use up a bunch of scraps on it. The quilt is twice as large as the pattern and I made a small dent in my scrap pile.

Used the Yellow Brick Road quilt pattern and my scraps. College Graduation present for my oldest daughter April.

I love scrap quilts, and always have some in production. When I have some scraps, I sew them into rows or blocks instead of putting them in a box. When I have enough for a quilt, I find something to mix it and calm it down with. Fun!

One day I decided to clean out my scraps drawer, had so many pieces decided to just sew some pieces together in a random way. Making sewn pieces large enough to square up. Trimmed to 12 1/2″ twisting & turning square ruler. Added sashing and outer boarder. This is end results of playing w/scraps

This quilt is done using cream squares from my scrap box for the backgrounds, greens and reds are also from the scrap box. My scraps cover 44 years of quilting, so are very extensive.

This quilt was made from close to 300 nickel (5″) squares of scrap fabric from my stash. It’s one of the quilt patterns I designed for my Double Nickel Quilt Challenge.

This was my first scrappy quilt from leftover fabric stash of my mom’s, mine and my friend, Brandy that made handmade clothing for Dead shows. I think I used every color I had available. The only new fabric bought was the blue border fabric. It’s still one of my favorite quilts I’ve made.

I love scrap quilts and I love fabric!. This is my ultimate scrap quilt. A true charm quilt with no repeats. It has over 3500 different fabrics. From 1880’s repros to vintage 1930’s through 2005 and every quilt I’d made up to that point. Made entirely of 1 1/2, 2 and 2 1/2″ squares.

Most of the fabrics in this quilt are from Obnoxious Fabric Swaps that I host online. I wanted to find a way to use them that did not highlight how obnoxious some of these fabrics really are, so I cut them up small and used them in this traditional design. They cannot conquer tradition!

This quilt took me nearly 3 years of on and off sewing to finish. I thought this would be a great scrap stash buster, but i hardly made a dent!! I’m vey happy to have it finished and i’m so happy with the results.

Paper pieced with scraps. Some from my beloved grandmother’s stash. She said it was cheating if you bought your fabric. You were supposed to be creative with what you had. Made for my son who designed the border insisting on adding his name so nobody could claim it. A lap quilt for two.

This is my quilt for Japan disaster relief. The area hardest hit by the tsumnami was famous for Sashiko, and I included some sashiko-patterned fabric, though it is free-motion machine quilted, not sashiko.

Spiderweb quilt made for Quilts of Valor. This is the first scrappy quilt I have ever made. I used paper foundations for the blocks, mitered corners for the borders. Used sawtooth stars for the cornerstones. Block from Bonnie Hunter’s blog. It was fun to put different fabrics next to each other.

Made with scraps from my wedding dress, bridesmaid’s and flowergirl’s dresses. There is calico (practise dress), Princess satin, shot taffeta, velvet, tuille (petticoat), veil netting, left over pearl buttons, beads (headdress) and ribbon flowers. I added 4 photos from our wedding day as centres.

Windowpanes was made as a challenge quilt for a contest held by Sparrow Studioz. The quilt was eventually given away to my grandson’s school bus driver who had to take early retirement due to illness. Windowpanes is made entirely of scraps, and I even had enough left over for a few extra squares…
